Honorees from New York metropolitan-area hospitals and health care organizations to be recognized for extraordinary commitment and service.
United Hospital Fund (UHF) presented Distinguished Trustee Awards to 26 trustees from New York metropolitan-area hospitals and health care organizations at a luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street today. The honorees were recognized for their extraordinary leadership and service to hospitals, nursing homes, home care, and rehabilitation organizations throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Orange counties, and nearby New Jersey and Connecticut.
This is the 28th year that UHF presented the Distinguished Trustee Awards. Trustees are nominated by their respective institutions, and all share the same goals as UHF—to ensure the highest quality of care and meet the needs of the diverse communities and populations they serve. The honorees and the institutions they help lead are listed below.
This year’s Tribute featured remarks from Thomas H. Lee, MD, chief medical officer of Press Ganey, a health care consulting firm supporting health care providers in understanding and improving the entire patient experience. Dr. Lee is professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and professor of health policy and management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His remarks drew on his professional experiences and his own role as a health system trustee.
Luncheon co-chairs Cary Kravet, trustee of Northwell Health, and Mary Beth Tully, a director of NYU Winthrop Hospital, joined United Hospital Fund President Anthony Shih, MD, MPH, in recognizing the 26 Distinguished Trustees honored at the lunch. Some 500 members and supporters of the health care community, along with honorees’ colleagues, friends, and family were in attendance.
For the 13th consecutive year the TD Charitable Foundation was underwriter of the Tribute, targeting its support to UHF work aimed at helping maintain the region’s leadership in improving insurance coverage, especially for our most vulnerable populations.
The luncheon co-chairs are both UHF board members and have long been active in health care. Mr. Kravet is president and chief executive officer of Kravet Inc., a fifth-generation family business based in Bethpage, New York, that is a global leader in decorative home furnishings. He has been a trustee of Northwell since 2003, and chairs its Committee on Quality.
Ms. Tully, a trustee of NYU Winthrop since 2012, has worked in both the public and nonprofit sectors. She is now involved in several volunteer initiatives.
“The honorees combine their unique expertise with an acute awareness of local needs in their service to local communities,” said Dr. Shih. “We at United Hospital Fund are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to pay tribute to the 2018 Distinguished Trustees who demonstrate a profound dedication to their organizations, and to the metropolitan region’s health care system.”
