The death of George Floyd, an African-American man, occurred in Powderhorn, a neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. While Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on a city street during an arrest, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, kept his knee on the right side of Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds; 2 minutes and 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd became unresponsive, according to the criminal complaint filed against Chauvin.
Officers Thomas K. Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng participated in Floyd’s arrest, with Kueng holding Floyd’s back, Lane holding his legs, and Thao looking on as he stood nearby.
The incident was recorded on the smartphones of bystanders. The arrest was made after Floyd allegedly attempted to use a $20 bill in a deli, which an employee identified as counterfeit. Police stated that Floyd “physically resisted” after being ordered to exit his vehicle before the video was filmed.
Surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant appeared to contradict police claims, with Floyd shown falling twice while being escorted by the officers. The criminal complaint stated Floyd “did not voluntarily get in the car and struggled with the officers, intentionally falling down, saying he was not going in the car, and refusing to stand still” based on body cameras worn by Lane and Kueng.
Video recording by a witness, showing the arrested Floyd repeating “Please”, “I can’t breathe”, and “Don’t kill me”, was widely circulated on social media platforms and broadcast by the media. All four officers were fired the next day.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is conducting a federal civil rights investigation into the incident at the request of the Minneapolis Police Department. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is also investigating possible violations of Minnesota statutes.
On May 29, Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for Floyd’s death, with Hennepin County attorney Michael O. Freeman saying he anticipated charges to be brought against the other three officers at the scene of Floyd’s death.
After Floyd’s death, demonstrations and protests in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area were initially peaceful on May 26, but later that day became violent as windows were smashed at a police precinct, two stores were set on fire, and many stores were looted and damaged.
Some demonstrators skirmished with police, who fired tear gas and rubber bullets. A preliminary autopsy found no indication that Floyd died of strangulation or traumatic asphyxia, but that the combined effects of being restrained, underlying health conditions, including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease, and potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death. Attorneys for Floyd’s family announced that they have requested an independent autopsy.
Floyd’s death has been compared to the 2014 death of Eric Garner. Garner, also an unarmed black man, repeated “I can’t breathe” eleven times after being placed in a chokehold by a New York police officer during an arrest in Staten Island.
We at World Liberty TV , like millions of people throughout the USA, Condemn, this kind of action by police throughout the USA.
It is very sad, this happened on a average there is some great police officers I know and am friends with, here in New York City, who are honorable people out there to protect and uphold law, and then there is a few bad police officers , who think they are above the law, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, who was killing George Floyd, by putting right knee on the right side of Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds; 2 minutes and 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd became unresponsive and died.
Now this could have been avoided, Officers Thomas K. Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng participated in Floyd’s arrest, with Kueng holding Floyd’s back, Lane holding his legs, and Thao looking on as he stood nearby. Instead of these other 3 officers helping Derek Chauvin, they could of stepped up to the plate and said, stop you are killing the man, put him in handcuffs and take him to jail, this kind of action by either of one of the 3 officers , would of saved his life today.
For that kind of action, Officers Thomas K. Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng participated in Floyd’s arrest, need to be fully investigated by law and immediate action needs to be taken, so these horrific deaths don’t occur again.
Since then Derek Chauvin, Chauvin was taken into custody on Friday afternoon, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. He faces charges of third-degree murder and manslaughter, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Many protests have since happened throughout USA, millions of people taking the streets, angry hurt by all that is happening. Also in New York City, on sat May 30th 2020, protestors got into fights with NYPD officers, burning and damaging their police cars, looting stores.
It is good to protest and bring this kind of attention, but for people fighting, attacking and looting is not a good thing, because the protests need to be done peacefully and in a good manner to bring attention to this horrific killing of George Floyd.
In conclusion, we are all saddened by the death of George Floyd, and we want to see justice for the family of Mr Floyd, and that these horrific killings stop permantely. So nobody of Color loses, a son, brother , uncle or any other family member.
Retired boxer Floyd Mayweather has reportedly offered to pay for the funeral services of George Floyd in Houston, Minnesota, Charlotte and a fourth location to be determined later, according to TMZ Sports.Per that report.

Floyd died after since-fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck during Floyd’s arrest while three other officers looked on. Those officers—Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas K. Lane—have also been fired, though they haven’t been charged with any crimes. Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
