On Sat Oct 24th 2020, Worlds fist COVID-19 Champions Awards took place at United Sherpa Association Inc., located in Elmhurst Queens. Close to 50 people were in attendance on both floors of the temple.
The Event was the brainchild of Dr. Adal Hussain, AKA Dr.Abbey who came up with the idea of honoring the community, along with politicians who have made a difference as well as a wide range of organizations who have served by giving of themselves with tireless and exceptional work ethic as the COVID-19 Pandemic continues to rage on.
The Event was held in Collaboration with The United Sherpa Association Inc, headed by President Urgen Sherpa. The event was invite only, as only a total of only 50 people are allowed indoors on both floors combined in accordance to safety protocols regarding community transmission. The event was streamed on Facebook live, World Liberty TV and a number of other platforms, seen by thousands of people worldwide.
The Program started of by welcoming remarks by Secretary General, United Sherpa Association Inc, who was the Co- Emcee of the event, who introduced Rev Bruce Grodner, National Executive Director, American Clergy Leadership Conference, who introduced, Dr Adal Hussain, Founder of Humanitarians of the World Inc, and head organizer of the COVID-19 Champions Awards 2020, and Co-Emcee of the event.
Dr.Abbey Introduced Co-Organizer, Urgen Sherpa, President United Sherpa Association Inc.
Keynote speaker was Melinda katz, Newly elected Queens DA, who went onto say, it’s a great pleasure to be part of the Himalayan Community, here in Queens, she also went on to say what kind of services the Queens DA, had to offer, here here keynote speech in our World Liberty TV by Clicking here .Melinda Katz was also an honoree for the COVID-19 Champions Awards 2020.
Other Politicians who were honorees and presented Citations and Proclamations, to Dr.Adal Hussain, Founder of Humanitarians of the World Inc, and organizer of The COVID-19 Champions award alongside, Urgan Sherpa, President of the United Sherpa Association Inc, were Jeffrion L.Aubry, member of New York State Assembly District 35, he presented proclamations, and was an honoree for the COVID-19 Champions award 2020.He went to say if we needed Humanitarians of the World, its now during the pandemic, he also congratulated, Mr Urgen and the temple for all they are doing for the community.
Grace Meng, Congress member for the 6th District, could not attend our Gala, due to personal reasons. Was an Honoree of the COVID-19 Champions Awards-2020., she presented Dr.Abbey and Mr Urgen a Proclamation in her office, thank both of the organization’s and proclaiming, Sat Oct 24th 2020, as COVID-19 Champions awards Day 2020.
Catalina Cruz, member of New York Assembly District 39, she was an honoree for the COVID-19 Champions awards 2020. She presented Citations for the great work Both The Humanitarians of the World Inc and United Sherpa Association Inc, has been doing during the pandemic.
Daniel Dromm , New York City Council Member for District 25, was honored as COVID-19 Champion, he presented Citations to Humanitarians of the World Inc, and United Sherpa Association Inc, and also he presented Certificates of achievements,to many volunteers of the United Sherpa Association Inc, who have been working and helping during COVID-19.He also went on to say, the work Dr.Abbey is doing for the Communities is second to none.
Jessica Gonzalez Rojas, New York Assembly Member Elect, District , New York 34, was an honoree, she went on to say I look forward to helping all communities and serving the most diversified borough in the world.
Sharon Lee, Acting Queens Borough President, Presented Citations to Dr.Abbey went on to say he is truly a warrior in the community and the great humanitarian work he does.
Jessica Ramos, New York State Senator, was honored as the COVID-19 Champion, She thanked The Humanitarians of the World Inc and United Sherpa Association Inc, and went onto say, we all need to do more during this pandemic and help people who need help in any way.
After the Politicians were recognized the Elmhurst hospital workers who risked there lives saving lives during the COVID-19, as the Elmhurst Hospital was called the Panademic Hospital of USA.
While invitations to receive honor and acknowledgement had been extended to staff members at Elmhurst hospital, many were unable to attend the Gala because doctors and nurses working, have few waking hours available to attend. In lieu of this, Humanitarians of the World Inc and the United Sherpa Association Inc presented the following honorees with thanks following their contribution toward sustaining human life during COVID-19 Pandemic.
The list of hospital staff is included below: Israel Rocha, Jr. Chief Executive Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals — Elmhurst, who received the award for the Executive Administration. Joan M. Curcio, MD; Department of Nursing, Alfredo Astua, MD: Chief of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep at Elmhurst Hospital Center Mount Sinai Services.Dr. Kessler, Director: Department of Emergency Medicine, Elmhurst Hospital Center, New York.
Over four thousand people were honored, with four plaques that will hang proudly in each one of the departments honoring Elmhurst Strong frontline workers. “We honor your strength and respect you for what you have done and continue to do during the COVID-19 Pandemic,” said Dr.Adal Hussain, Founder of Humanitarians of the World Inc. Israel Rocha, Jr. Chief Executive Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals — Elmhurst went on to express, “your recognition of our efforts during COVID-19, warms our hearts and inspires us as we continue to care for patients during the current healthcare crisis.”
A panel titled, Diversity Interfaith Panel Moderated by Dr.Adal Hussain, which included faith leaders from, Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist. The Question that was asked what has your place of Worship for the community during COVID-19.

Special award was presented to Jean Shafiroff, Philanthropist/ Humanitarian during COVID-19 Pandemics, contributing moneys and speaking on food shortage and bringing nationwide attention to this matter, also speaking on behalf of American Humane Society.
COVID-19 Champions Community awards were presented to the following: Pastor Alba Lucia Yepes T. of CENTI –CITI Church, who has distributed thousands of food boxes for the needy and hungry during COVID-19.
Mohammad Pier, Philanthropist, who 20 years ago built an school for the poor in Katmandu, in Nepal with his own money, which is still in existence, helping thousands of children, Mohammad, also contributes money to many worthy causes.
Farida Yesmin, Care Queen & King foundation global family network Inc. Founder and president ,has helped many people during COVID-19 , financially and donation of PPE, during COVID-19 .
Rev Bruce Grodner, National Executive Director, American Clergy Leadership Conference , bringing world wide attention, to COVID-19 Pandemic, through prayer via zoom and other media platforms and engaging many religions of the world.
Special Awards were presented to Dr.Adal Hussain, Organizer of the Event, The Highest award presented by the United Sherpa Association Inc, The Love of Token Award.
Urgan Sherpa, Co-organizer was presented by an special award from Humanitarians of the World Inc, for his dedication to humanity.
The Himalayan COVID-19 Community awards were presented , by Mr Urgen Sherpa, Secretary General Karma Lama and Vice President Phurba Sherpa of the United Sherpa Association Inc.

Closing remarks were by Dr.Adal Hussain, Head Organizer of the event and Urgen Sherpa , Co-Organizer of The COVID-19 Champions awards-2020.
Right after the closing remarks, everybody went outside in a special place were an all vegetarian Himalayan Style food was served alongside many cultural drinks and teas.
We like to thank close to 40 honoree’s who have one thing in common, each and everyone of them stepped up, during COVID-19 Panademic, by helping through donating, Money, Time, Products and other services, each and everyone of them deserved the COVID-19 Champions awards-2020 for there acts of humanity, who are doing something during this pandemic to make this world a better place.
