It’s the beginning of the year 2017 and you know what always happens around this time. Every media outlet in the world sends a reporter to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Reporters go to this event to stand in a convention center and talk about technology. Technology is always innovating so there is always something new and extravagant that catches everyone’s attention; this event is more than just a collection of gadgets.
The Consumer Electronics Show is trade show where the greatest technology news of the year used to be presented to the world. Since 1967 large crowds of loyal techies from enthusiasts, journalist, financial analyst and retail buyers have traveled to the show expecting to have a glimpse of the newest technology in consumer electronics. CES has a storied history of important announcements, like this year they introduced new technology that you never thought would happen.
The trade show known today as CES was a spin off out of the Chicago Music Show in 1967. The market for consumer electronics has converted into a large enough market that it makes it on its own, having two trade shows for a while, the new York City Consumer Electronics Show, done during the summer, and the Chicago’s Winter Consumer Electronics Show. The first CES was from June 24 to 28, bringing 17,500 attendees, then the CES was divided into two shows, from 1978 to 1994, then the summer show was cancelled, leaving just the winter convention in Las Vegas.
Since Microsoft has a very large presence at CES, software and video game hardware started disappearing from the trade show in 1995. In this year the Electronics Entertainment Expo had its launching and video games proved that like the consumer electronics in 1967 it had a strong enough market to become its own convention. When EEE did not exist, CES welcomed the Atari Pong home console back in 1974 and the Commodore 64 in 1982. In 1985 they introduced Nintendo and Tetris in 1988.
In the 70’s the videocassette recorder (VCR) was introduced in exactly 1970. Than later after in 1974 the Laserdisc player was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show. In 1981 the camcorder was introduced later followed by the Compact disc player in the same year. In the early 90’s newer technology was introduced. The digital audio technology was introduced in 1990, followed by the Compact disc interactive in 1991. Later in 1993 the famous mini disc was presented, the radio data system was presented in 1993 and in 1994 the Digital satellite system. And this list goes on till 2017. Every year new tech gets introduced helping growth for the economy and making life simpler with gadgets.
