The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) successfully hosted its 28th Annual Benefit Gala, “Raising Hope and Transforming Lives,” on Friday, April 28th, 2017 at 6 PM at the Cipriani 42nd Street (110 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017) to celebrate 28 years of outstanding services to the New York Tri-State area and continuous efforts to create a violence-free society.
KAFSC’s keynote speaker for the evening was Ana Oliveira, President & CEO of The New York Women’s Foundation, which primarily supports under-served women and girls on issues of anti-violence and safety, economic security, and healthy, sexual rights and reproductive justice.
This year’s Corporate Honoree was Margarette Lee who is the Partner at Youngwoo & Associates, LLC (“YWA”), a New York-based real estate investment and development firm and the Philanthropy in Action Award went to Misook Doolittle, the Founder and Former CEO of Exclusively Misook, for her social services and dedication to the community.
A longtime advocate and supporter of KAFSC, Vivian Lee from NY1 facilitated KAFSC’s Gala as its Mistress of Ceremonies again this year. In addition, KAFSC Hodori “Little Tiger” Afterschool students added more excitement by performing Korean drums, “Dynamic Arirang.”
Around 600 guests attended this year’s Gala. Businesswoman, writer, and television personality, Martha Stewart and Korean actor Lee Byung Hun and his actress wife Lee Min Jung were in attendance to grace the event with their presence.
The program consisted of a major Live Auction and Live Appeal “Raise Your Hand” as well as Silent Auction to raise funds, which will take up a quarter of the KAFSC’s annual operating cost to serve more than 2,500 victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault free of charge. Korean American Storyteller, Milton Washington returned to preside over KAFSC Gala’s Live Auction.
KAFSC’s Board members, Julie Chi and Lauren U. Y. Lee, Esq. were the Gala Co-Chairs and Michelle Lee served as the Gala Host Committee Chair. This year’s Gala Auction Co-Chairs were Katharine Choi and Tom Roh.
