We attended the Pre-Conference on the opening day, Titled: Stress-A Deep Dive: Moving Beyond The HPA Axis, We’ve all felt the stress of the past year, and patients are more ready than ever to address it. As clinicians we need to understand how our patients’ stress is uniquely affecting their health and help them to create and implement a personalized plan to manage it.
In this preconference we’ll go beyond the HPA axis to discuss stress in the context of immune health and draw connections to the gut-brain axis. This will help you recognize the nuances in identifying and caring for patients’ individual needs, and provide protocol templates you can utilize at your next appointment. It was sponsored by Metagenics Institute.
We also attended the following Symposiums: Probiotics: The Next Evolution in Immune and Gut Health Speaker: Dr. Justin Green, PhD. Session Description: We all know that immune health is something you need to take care of daily.
With our immune system tied directly to our gut health, it is critical to ensure we are doing everything we can to support it. Enter postbiotics, the “new biotic” on the scene. Session attendees will hear the science supporting postbiotics, understand how postbiotics support gut health and therefore immunity, how post, pro and prebiotics are different from each other and how we can make sure we’re getting postbiotics in our diet.
About the Speaker: Dr. Justin Green, PhD :Dr. Justin Green is the Director of Scientific Affairs at Cargill Health Technologies for EpiCor Postbiotic. He helps oversee the ongoing research and development for CHT ingredients and helping to educate and communicate the science like he is doing today in this webinar. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University and did postdoc research at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
A Naturopathic Perspective to Lyme Disease Management: Session Description: Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the world with more than 476,000 new cases each year in the United States alone. The diagnosis of Lyme disease remains controversial in the medical community and there is poor recognition of persistent or chronic illness.
Conventional medical treatment suggests a short course of antibiotics can adequately treat Lyme disease, yet many of those infected go on to suffer from ongoing symptoms even if they received early and appropriate therapy.
This leaves the clinician navigating the best course of action for those who failed early treatment or those who may have been misdiagnosed and now present with persistent symptoms. In this talk, Dr. Purdy will discuss how a whole-person approach is needed to help Lyme patients overcome their illness and specifically address how integrating dietary and lifestyle management, herbal therapies, and immune modulation lead to more efficient and lasting clinical results.
Dr. Meagan Purdy: graduated from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon in and held a residency focusing on IV therapy and integrative cancer care at the Champlain Center for Natural Medicine in Vermont. Following residency, she founded the multi-disciplinary Holistic Health Center of Dallas, where she and her team helped thousands of patients recover from multiple ailments with a special interest in evidence-based alternative medicine approaches to the most difficult or chronic cases. She is passionate about patient education, and believes in involving her patients in their own healthcare. She has been a recurring guest on the popular morning show, Good Morning Texas, has appeared on multiple radio shows and podcasts, has attended as an expert speaker at multiple medical conferences, and is a regular contributor for many popular health blogs. She now sees patients remotely and continues to enjoy crafting new herbal recipes as her hobby while working as the Senior Manager of Scientific Education for Allergy Research Group.
