HOTWINC & USA Inc Honor 4 Thousand Elmhurst Hospital Personnel with COVID-19 Champions awards-2020

We are proud to honor Israel Rocha, Jr.Chief Executive Officer, Executive administration of Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York., and the following three departments; Nursing , Pulmonary Medicine/Critical care,  and Emergency Medicine.

At the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Elmhurst hospital was the pandemic hospital of the USA.

Elmhurst Hospital, in Queens, New York, is a 545-bed city hospital that serves as a safety-net institution for a largely working-class immigrant population. The novel coronavirus has quickly spread through this vulnerable community, and the hospital is currently operating at more than 100% capacity. In an effort to free up precious beds, dozens of non-Covid-related cases are being transferred to other facilities. Inpatient wards are overwhelmed with those who, under different circumstances, would belong in intensive care units. This is the “epicenter within the epicenter” of the Covid-19 crisis in New York City.

Elmhurst Hospital set up a tent — one of the first in New York — outside of the emergency department. This stemmed the tide in three ways: First, it kept non-critically ill patients out of the emergency room and away from risk. Second, it allowed us to assign physicians who typically work in ambulatory clinics to the tent, freeing up ER doctors for the more critical cases. Finally, in the face of unprecedented demand, New York City hospitals have constrained supplies that need to be judiciously managed for high-risk patients. Keeping the critically ill apart from the non-critically ill helps us allocate resources appropriately.

The national shortage of gowns, masks, gloves, and other materials that keep medical staff safe has created a bottleneck and forced us to find creative ways to conserve. For example, Elmhurst has contained suspected Covid patients in a specific, separate area of the hospital under negative pressure, which helps prevent cross-contamination between rooms. Providers working in a Covid section of the hospital can feasibly wear one N95 mask and face shield throughout a shift, while still protecting themselves from infection. While not an ideal long-term solution, it’s allowed Elmhurst to continue seeing and admitting new patients at a reasonable pace while slowing the burn rate of precious PPE.

Already, on multiple occasions, doctors at Elmhurst have scrambled to find a ventilator for a critically ill Covid-19 patient. We nervously anticipate the day when we will not have one. “Make more ventilators” is an obvious solution, but ventilators are complex machines, difficult to produce quickly, and they have been subject to an enormous surge in global demand. We need them immediately — not next month or next week.

In response, we have freed up existing ventilators in operating rooms and obtained others from less impacted hospitals in our health system. This has only been possible as elective surgical cases are put on hold, but it also offers a national model for finding urgent supplies in forgotten places.

We at Humanitarians of the World Inc, invited Elmhurst hospital staff to be honored at our COVID-19 Champions awards Gala 2020., but they was not able to attend due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and a busy schedule of the head doctors.

So we were invited to Elmhurst hospital where we presented the COVID-19 Champions awards-2020, to the following departments: Israel Rocha, Jr.Chief Executive Officer, accepted  Executive administration COVID-19 Champions award, Alfredo Astua, MD, Pulmonary Medicine/Critical care, Dr. Stuart Kessler , Director Department of Emergency Medicine. Joan M. Curcio, MD, Nursing .

Mr Rocha, went on to say we employ close to four thousand people in Elmhurst hospital, we will be very happy to honor each and every one of the four thousand employees, with the COVID-19 Champions awards-2020.

I like to thank Dr.Adal Hussain, Founder of Humanitarians of the World Inc, and Mr Urgen Sherpa , President , United Sherpa Association Inc, for bestowing these wonderful honors.

Mr Rocha, went on to say, your recognition of our efforts warms our hearts and inspires us as we continue to care for patients during the current healthcare crisis. Please be safe and well.

HOTWINC, Serves over one Thousand, Homeless, Needy, First Responders & Senior Citizens During COVID-19

Since March 2020, when COVID-19 pandemic, spread throughout the United States of America, we at Humanitarians of the World Inc, have been busy getting food, basic necessities, tee-shirts, caps , tote bags, masks, gloves and sanitizers.

We did get a lot of support from many organizations, United Sherpa Association (USA), Inc. Jean Shafiroff, ZGuards, and many more organizations who did not want their names mentioned, who contributed many products anonymous.

We had many individual donors who contributed monetary donations, of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and some in a better situation donated a little more which they can afford., we want to thank many people on our social media platforms, who made these contributions, from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Linked IN.

Above all we also want to thank all our Humanitarians of the World Inc, (HOTWINC) Volunteers, who contributed, their time, money and energy, to make this project a super success.

Since March to Sept 2020, approximately, 7 months. We have helped close to 2000 (Two Thousand People, Homeless, Needy, poor, senior citizens, people with disabilities, COVID-19 positive, first responders, essential workers and many many more.

We pack the bags at our Humanitarians of the World Inc, World headquarters based here in Elmhurst Queens New York.

Close to 1000 bags were given to 2000 people in need, each bag is for 2 people. The tote bag is filled with, fresh fruit Apples,  Oranges, Bananas , Cereal, Milk, healthy bars, fresh breads Pita bread, Bagels, Rolls,Apple juice, Orange juice, Apple jelly, Hummus, peanut butter sandwiches, baby carrot bags.

Also in the bags we included: 2Tee-shirts,  2 Caps,  2 water bottles, 2 pairs of socks. 2 Masks alongside 2 pairs of disposable gloves and hand sanitizers. Also  following electronic items were given: Cell phone charger, Mini-Earphones, charging cables and many more electronic accessories.

After packing all the bags, alongside our volunteers, we put them in our van and start hitting different locations, throughout New York City, Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn. Each one of our volunteers are wearing a mask, a shield over the mask , alongside a pair of rubber gloves, to keep them safe, while distributing the bags to many people, also 6ft social distancing is an must, for everybody’s safety, each volunteer is given a 30 minute course in this COVID-19 pandemic.

We are proud to say all our volunteers helping us, did not get effected with COVID-19 , and everyone we distributed the bags were all safe, apart from the people who were suffers of COVID-19, which we distributed bags to many by leaving the bags 7 feet away, after that they picked them up. They waved to us and thanked us, for the donation of bags.

On a daily basis, we would distribute 10 bags, to 10 homeless South American, folks near a park near, Elmhurst hospital. I try to send a few of the homeless there to a local food pantry where they can get free food on a daily basis.

According 3 of the homeless guys, they told us that they did go to such pantries and was told by a couple of guys distributing food, that they needed an ID, and that if they had no ID, ISIS, will arrest them and have them deported, so they got scared and never went back to the pantry. So we on a regular basis give them bags of food, so they don’t go hungry.

Homeless Shelters on the Upper West Side & HOTWINC Homeless Covid-19 Presentation

On Sun Aug 16th 2020, we went to the Upper Westside, from 72nd Street to 79th Street and Broadway, to find out what was happening in the neighborhood. We read many reports in the media and social media, that a lot of folks living in the area, were homeless temporally, placed by City in hotels, for a period of 6 months, mostly single men.

The Area residents who spoke with did not want to be on camera, or have their name mentioned, told us that the homeless is an issue, a lot of them are using drugs, drinking on the streets, panhandling on each corner, one of the people you see in the video interview mentioned one of the homeless person’s broke her stores, window with a brick.

Another business owner told us 5-6 homeless people hang outside her store, and use the street internet, which is located right across here store on a regular basis, and a lot of the customers and foot traffic has stopped due to them hanging out in front of the store.

Few other business owners told us a lot of people are going and shopping elsewhere, and there business is down another 25%, due to the homeless moving in the area and hanging out till late day and night.

Humanitarians of the World Inc, (Hotwinc), distributed bags of food and basic necessities  to close to 30 people who were homeless, living on the streets and needed immediate help. Since COVID-19 , Humanitarians of the World Inc, has distributed close to 300 bags to 500 people , Homeless , Needy, People who lost their jobs due to Covid-19, families who have kids and its difficult to support there kids.

Food Chain and Food Pantries During Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Parts of the supply chain have been threatened by COVID-19. And consumers may not be feeling the impacts of the most pronounced disruption yet – the ripple effect from the closure of several meat processing plants that closed after COVID-19 outbreaks among their workers.

Wednesday, Tyson suspended operations at its largest pork processing plant in Waterloo, Iowa. That follows Smithfield Foods shutting pork processing plants in Wisconsin and Missouri after the closure of its Sioux Falls, SD plant — one of the largest single-source COVID hotspots in the country.

There are reports of more than a dozen pork, beef and chicken plants now closed in several states including Colorado and Pennsylvania. That will likely exacerbate the potential for shortages and high prices beyond what was already occurring as shoppers cleared out grocery stores and food-strapped food banks found themselves competing with the general public in retail establishments.

Long haul trucking to get produce from the two biggest growing areas – California and Florida – has had a tough time meeting the faster purchasing pace, especially with the additional time now needed for cleaning trucks and supplies and ensuring the health of drivers traveling through COVID-19-stricken states.

That combined with large-scale institutional closures – universities, schools, hotels, restaurants and more – have resulted in produce being destroyed. Food banks, and especially food pantries, often have zero or limited means to store items like that. Connecticut is making an effort to get some of the milk surplus from its dairy farms into the system.

DISASTER RELIEF BOXES: Food Bank of Central New York is working to prepare for the next phase of crisis operations as we deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. That work includes packing boxes of non-perishable food items into emergency disaster boxes. If and when food pantries close in large numbers, and there is a growing unmet need in the community we serve, we will begin direct mass distributions of the emergency food boxes to families and individuals in need. Those distributions efforts will be communicated through our partners and social media.

We like to thank our Guest and a champion of many causes, Humanitarian, Philanthropist and Socialite, Jean Shafiroff talking about Food Chain and Food pantries During Coronavirus (COVID-19).

About Jean Shafiroff: Jean Shafiroff is renowned for her charitable giving and commitment to philanthropy. Each year she chairs numerous galas and hosts many events benefitting several not-for-profit organizations each year and is the author of Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give, a book which serves as a practical guide for both the aspiring and seasoned philanthropist. She serves on the boards of several charitable organizations, including the New York City Mission Society, Southampton Hospital Association, French Heritage Society, Couture Council (Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology), Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Honorary Board  and Global Strays. She is an Honorary Trustee of the Jewish Board and served as a Trustee for 28 years.  She is also an ambassador for the American Humane Society and the Ambassador-at-large for the Southampton Animal Shelter. In addition, Jean is a New York Women’s Foundation Board Alumna who remains very active with the Foundation and women’s issues. A volunteer fundraiser, leader, and spokesperson for several charitable causes, Jean Shafiroff’s philanthropic work includes improving the lives of underserved populations, women’s rights and well- being, health care, animal welfare, and resources for children in need, in addition to other causes.  Most recently Jean has been advocating  on behalf of food pantries by donating and  appearing on numerous TV and radio stations in the United States.

Should New York State & the Nation open up after or before COVID-19

Gov. Andrew Cuomo in recent days has talked about a regional approach to reopening businesses in New York as a way to slowly bring back the state’s economy.

Any plan would likely start with parts of upstate New York that have had the fewest coronavirus cases and deaths. More than 90% of the deaths, hospitalizations and cases have been in New York City and its suburbs.

”We operate as one state, but we also have to understand variations,” Cuomo said Tuesday in Buffalo. You do want to get this economy open as soon as possible. And if a situation is radically different in one part of the state than another part of the state, take that into consideration.”

Non-essential businesses and schools in New York are closed through May 15th , but Cuomo and regional leaders have talked about moving soon after to at least ease of the restrictions in parts of the state.

On Monday, Cuomo announced a “Reimagine New York” task force of the downstate county leaders to rebuild the area’s economy.

Gov. Cuomo: Well the CDC guidance says before any state should open you need two weeks of flat or declining numbers, right? So by the feds CDC guidance we are not there yet. So even by a region we’d have to do two weeks of flat or declining.”

The president has continued to predict the country will quickly return to normal and bounce back like never before, but he has limited say in when and how that could begin. Many governors have instituted stay-at-home orders and other lockdowns until at least June.

And Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top expert on infectious diseases, has cautioned that the virus dictates the timeline and warned that to “gradually” reopen the country widespread testing must be in place, so doctors can better identify, isolate and trace cases.

Asked about the need for nationwide testing in order to send Americans back to work at Thursday’s briefing, the president largely dismissed the question, touting the country’s testing of two million people “a milestone anywhere,” while saying that testing all 325 million Americans is impractical and “not gonna happen.”

Kemp, a Republican serving in his first term, was one of the last governors to impose a stay-at-home order for his state, which took effect on April 3.

Citing “favorable data, enhanced testing and approval of our health care professionals,” Kemp said Monday that some businesses once deemed nonessential, like fitness centers, tattoo parlors and nail salons, can welcome back customers starting Friday.

In a tweet on Friday, the president reiterated his most recent stance that it was too soon for Georgia to reopen.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson: said the governor’s decision was “reckless” on CNN earlier this week, adding he was “beyond disturbed” by it.Georgia Department of Public Health reported that as of Friday afternoon, there have been 892 deaths in the state related to.

Carolyn Goodman, the independent mayor of Las Vegas:, has said she wants the city’s casinos, hotels and stadiums to quickly reopen in an interview that attracted widespread criticism. “I want our restaurants open. I want our small businesses open. I want people back in employment,” “I’d love everything open because I think we’ve had viruses for years that have been here,” the mayor added. “I want us open in the city of Las Vegas so our people can go back to work.”

The interview quickly attracted criticism, with one veteran Nevada journalist calling it “the single most embarrassing thing” he had seen from a state politician in 35 years.

I believe Las Vegas Mayor, and Georgia Governor can learn from these 2 great leaders, Governor Cuomo and Mayor Bill De Blasio and maybe use there template in there respected states.
